Breast Implant Replacement in Long Island & NYC

For NYC breast revision surgery, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Kaveh Alizadeh specializes in revising or correcting prior cosmetic or reconstructive breast surgery. Breast revision, also known as breast implant replacement or reoperation, may involve revision of scars, reshaping of stretched breast shape, or removing existing breast implants to correct a complication or change an existing implant size. Dr. Alizadeh's primary goal with breast revision surgery is to safely, beautifully restore each patient's youthful breast shape and appearance.

At Cosmoplastic Surgery, patients may request breast revision because they are experiencing complications with their current implants, or they may simply wish to change their implant size. Regardless of the reason, some women who have had breast surgery from other plastic surgeons may find themselves dissatisfied with their final results. They may be experiencing complications such as capsular contracture, rippling, rupture, or implant asymmetry, which necessitate breast revision, or they may simply wish to change to a larger or smaller implant size.

Reasons To Undergo Breast Revision Surgery

Patients may elect to have breast revision in NYC to change the size or type of their implants because of cosmetic preferences. This surgery may also be performed to correct a variety of breast implant complications, including:

Capsular contracture

When implants are placed for breast augmentation, the body forms a capsule of scar tissue around the implant. Problems can develop if the capsule becomes thicker and begins to contract around the implant, causing it to become hard and misshapen. Dr. Alizadeh can treat capsular contracture by performing segmental vs en-bloc resection of the capsule followed  by placing new implants in a different position relative to the chest muscle. For women that have potential leakage of the implant material or are at risk for a rare malignant condition (ALCL) Dr. alizadeh would perform further testing of the capsule to ensure there is no further risk to the patient.

Bottoming out

When breast implants have dropped considerably, it can make the nipples appear too high and the implants appear too low on the chest. There are several different surgical approaches to correct this problem. Dr. Alizadeh will choose the most appropriate surgical techniques for your breast revision surgery including potential use of acellular dermal matrix.

Rippling

This problem occurs more frequently among thinner women when breast implant ripples are visible on the surface of the skin. Rippling may be corrected by placing biologic fabric over the implants, changing the placement of the implants, or by camouflaging the ripples with natural fat grafting using the patient’s own body fat.

Implant rupture

Breast implants today are designed to be durable, but leaks and ruptures can occur. If it happens to you, Dr. Alizadeh can perform breast revision to replace the ruptured implant with a new implant after performing en-bloc or total capsulectomy.

Symmastia

In this fairly rare complication, also called “kissing implants,” the breast implants meet in the middle of the chest with no separation in between. This can cause pain, discomfort, and a distorted appearance of the breasts. Symmastia can be corrected by changing the placement of the implant or by repairing the cleavage area and anchoring the implants with soft tissue grafts.

Breast Revision In Nyc – A Comprehensive Approach

Dr. Alizadeh will perform a three-dimensional photo simulation analysis to help determine whether you would benefit from an acellular dermal matrix such as Alloderm® or other soft-tissue reinforcement material such as MTF dermal interface or Meso BioMatrix®. He may additionally offer NaturaGlow™ Fat Transfer or other naturally based techniques for your breast revision. Those who elect to have a smaller implant may discover that they need a NaturaBra™ Breast Lift (mastopexy) because of the redundant skin.
