What Is a Thigh Lift?

Sagging, redundant skin in the inner and outer thighs can not only interfere with a positive self-image but can also cause chafing, irritation, and discomfort. Whether distortions in thighs’ appearance are due to the natural aging process or they occurred as a result of pregnancy or weight fluctuations, a thigh lift can help reshape, sculpt, and refine the upper legs for a more attractive physique. The surgery can be combined with liposuction to address stubborn fat as well.

What are the benefits?

  • Sculpts, trims, and streamlines the upper legs
  • Removes excess drooping skin
  • Can be well-combined with lipo to remove excess fat
  • Helps expand your wardrobe options
  • Boosts self-confidence
  • Creates a more proportionate, youthful figure

Who Is an Ideal Candidate for a Thigh Lift?

Patients concerned about excess skin and fat in the inner or upper thighs will make excellent candidates for a thigh lift, provided that they are non-smokers of sound mind and body who are not currently struggling with any uncontrolled medical issues. Additionally, they should have realistic expectations for their results based on their private consultation with Dr. Alizadeh.

    The Thigh Lift Procedure

A thigh lift is performed on an outpatient basis. Lifting the inner thighs requires incisions extending from the medial part of the thigh/groin crease around to the buttock crease. Lateral or anterior thigh lifts can be performed as separate procedures for some patients – only a personal consultation will reveal what procedure will create the look you want. The procedure typically involves the following steps:

    Step One

You will be administered anesthetic so the procedure is comfortable. You may have intravenous or general anesthetic, as advised by your surgeon.

    Step Two

Dr. Alizadeh places the incisions—the location and extent of which will vary based upon the amount of excess fat, tissue, and skin to be addressed.

    Step Three

The excess fat, tissue and skin is removed, and the skin tightened to reshape the appearance of your thighs with Colle’s fascial suspension. This is a critical step that sets apart the outcome between different centers based on how it is executed.

    Step Four

Dr. Alizadeh closes the incisions in a precise, layered manner with his innovative ratcheting suture technique ensuring there is no tension on the outer layer. The incision is then covered by a mesh glue and transparent dressing.  This produces a scar that, over time, becomes extremely difficult to detect.

    Recovery After A Thigh Lift

After the thigh lift is completed, the area will be covered with bandages and tiny tubes may be placed to assist in draining excess fluid or blood from the area. You will spend some time recovering from surgery before being allowed to return home. You will need another person, whether a friend or family member, to transport you.

The healing process will include swelling and bruising, both of which will subside over the following weeks. During this time, activity should be restricted to ensure you have adequate healing time without doing anything to agitate the incision. At Cosmoplastic Surgery in NYC and Long Island, we will provide a full list of aftercare instructions. You will get a call from our team within 24 hours after surgery and have access to our team 24/7.  Between thorough aftercare and follow-up appointments with Dr. Alizadeh, our patients routinely experience an uneventful recovery process that ends with confidence in their thighs.
