Long Island's board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Kaveh Alizadeh performs nose surgery, also known as rhinoplasty or ethnic rhinoplasty, for NYC-area residents who are unhappy with the size, shape, angle, or proportion of their nose and wish to achieve a more harmonious, balanced facial appearance. Some patients also request rhinoplasty because they suffer from breathing complications due to congenital abnormalities or prior trauma.

Still others simply wish to have a revision rhinoplasty to correct poor results from a prior nose job. Whatever your reason for considering rhinoplasty, Dr. Alizadeh will listen carefully to your concerns and help you create a customized plan to help you achieve your aesthetic goals.

Dr. Alizadeh is among the most skilled, experienced, and visionary providers of rhinoplasty nose surgery in the NYC area. Although many plastic surgeons regard rhinoplasty as the most difficult procedure in plastic surgery, Dr. Alizadeh sees it as one of his premier specialties.

Throughout many years of practicing medicine and performing rhinoplasty surgery, he has adjusted his surgical technique, incorporated state-of-the-art technologies and biomaterials, helped modify anesthesia protocols, and essentially perfected his own surgical technique, called the NaturaShape® Rhinoplasty, to improve patient safety, reduce pain and recovery time, and produce consistently outstanding and satisfying results.

Our Cosmoplastic Surgery patients report a very high satisfaction rate from NaturaShape® rhinoplasty surgery because even minor changes to the nose can dramatically alter a person's facial harmony, overall appearance, and self-confidence.

Benefits Rhinoplasty for Long Island, Westchester & Manhattan Area Patients

During your initial consultation with Dr. Alizadeh, he will explain that there is not—or rather should not be—a "one size fits all" rhinoplasty surgery because each patient's unique anatomical features determine the appropriate course of action. Each nose should be evaluated not only for how it complements the overall facial structure, but also for skin thickness, cartilage strength, and airway-passage function. That said, all rhinoplasty procedures should aim to create a symmetrical nose that exists in harmonious proportion with the rest of the face. This is accomplished by improving the angles and size of the nasal bridge, nasal tip, and nostrils.

Before and after rhinoplasty with board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Alizadeh.

At your first rhinoplasty appointment, Dr. Alizadeh will listen carefully to your concerns about your nasal appearance. Are you bothered by its size? Is it crooked? Too wide? Does it feature a pronounced hump? Downward-facing tip? There are also other nuances that you may not have noticed such as the nose drooping with smiling or looking larger because of the shape and size of your chin. To help educate you about your options for addressing these concerns, he will utilize the Canfield Vectra® 3D Imaging and Simulation System, which will display a range of simulated surgical results, helping you identify the precise looks that you prefer.

This advanced simulation technology can supplement a consultation only so much, though. In truth, a patient searching for a rhinoplasty surgeon must understand that the best results come from experienced, well-trained, board-certified plastic surgeons who naturally have an artistic eye. Like a sculptor, Dr. Alizadeh uses his innate aesthetic sensibility to help his patients achieve harmonious facial balance and beautiful, often life-changing results.

Before & After

What to Expect from Surgery

Dr. Alizadeh performs rhinoplasty surgery on an outpatient basis in one of many boutique NYC-area operating rooms certified by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) or the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAAASF). Rhinoplasty surgery is performed under either local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia, and Dr. Alizadeh will help you determine the best method based on your clinical needs. A board-certified physician anesthesiologist is present to monitor your surgery, ensuring a safe, pain-free procedure and quick recovery from anesthesia.

The surgery itself generally requires one to three hours. Dr. Alizadeh performs both closed rhinoplasty and open rhinoplasty surgery. A closed approach uses internal nose incisions, while an open approach uses external incisions. Some patients require both open and closed techniques to achieve optimal results. Through these incisions Dr. Alizadeh will perform the necessary surgical techniques to help you achieve the results you desire.

These might include one or more of the following:

  • External incisions to decrease the width of the nose base or nostrils
  • Reduction or enhancement of the nasal bridge
  • Removal of nasal hums or irregularities
  • Adjustment of the nasal tip
  • Modification of nostril size, shape, or angle
  • Repair or modification of internal cartilage and structures
  • Modification of muscles in the lip that can distort the nose while smiling
  • Enhancement of the chin and jawline

Once all incisions are closed with absorbable sutures or surgical glues, Dr. Alizadeh will place a small cast on the nose. Prior to surgery, he and his caring staff will explain in detail how to prepare for surgery, the precise steps he will take during your rhinoplasty procedure, and what to expect during recovery.

What to Expect from Recovery

Recovery from rhinoplasty surgery ranges from one to two weeks, during which time you may be required to wear a nasal cast or splint across the nasal bridge. Surgery may cause bruising, swelling, or nasal congestion, which will subside with time. Cold compresses help decrease swelling and discomfort throughout the first few days following surgery, but patients should accept that nose surgery requires patience during the healing process. Nasal swelling can persist for weeks, and rhinoplasty results continue to improve for up to a year.
