Benefits of a Brachioplasty or Thighplasty for New York Residents

An arm lift (brachioplasty) or thigh lift (thighplasty) is often indicated for NYC patients who have loose, hanging skin in their upper arms or thighs. Numerous factors could be the cause: significant weight loss, aging, genetics, various medications, or a combination of these factors. The ideal candidates for arm lift or thigh lift in NYC have maintained their weight loss over time and have tried regular, long-term exercise and/or weightlifting to improve tone. In spite of their efforts, however, they still have excess, loose skin. Both the arm lift and the thigh lift can help individuals achieve a more slender, sculpted, and toned appearance.

Arm Lift (Brachioplasty)

Many people suffer from unsightly skin folds that droop and hang. This condition can interfere with your ability to wear more revealing tops, and lead to uncomfortable underarm skin rashes and irritation. Brachioplasty, also known as an arm lift or arm tuck is a procedure designed to remove sagging skin folds of the upper arm.

A brachioplasty can help restore your confidence to wear short-sleeved blouses and shirts comfortably and to conduct your life with greater freedom. An arm lift can restore a more youthful, trim appearance to your arms and could be the appropriate treatment if you suffer from:

  • Sagging skin that droops from the arms.
  • Excess fat that gives your arms a flabby appearance.
  • You were left with excess skin, tissue, and fat after a dramatic loss of weight.
  • You have lost the trim, youthful look of your arms, and feel embarrassed about the look of your arm skin and tissue.

The Arm Lift Procedure

The type of brachioplasty performed by Dr. Alizadeh will depend upon how much excess skin, fat, and tissue is present. All surgical procedures at Cosmoplastic Surgery are custom tailored for the patient. The typical steps in a standard NYC arm lift procedure include the following:

  • Anesthetic is administered so you are comfortable during the procedure. The type of anesthetic will be intravenous sedation or general anesthetic.
  • Incisions are made on the inside or back of the arm, typically from the underarm to just above the elbow. In some cases, patients may only require an incision with the armpit.
  • Through this incision, Dr. Alizadeh precisely removes excess skin, fat, and tissue.
  • The tissue and skin are tightened and reshaped while supporting them with “accellular dermal matrix”.
  • Novel tension reducing Internal sutures (stitches) are placed. These sutures may be absorbable or removable, but in either case, your healing process will be closely monitored.

Recovery After An Arm Lift

Recovery usually takes one week, depending upon the extent of your surgery. Returning to work depends on the activity required but is typically about 7-10 days. You will have bandages covering your incisions and may need a compression garment to help ward off extensive swelling.

We help our patients through each phase of recovery and ensure they understand how to care for the surgical site until it is fully healed. Initially, rest is important, as while you are resting, the body heals.

That doesn’t mean that you are bedridden – it is helpful to walk to help with circulation, but any lifting or stress should be avoided during the early stages, so the incisions heal as they should. The end result is slimmer, trimmer, more attractive arms.

Thigh Lift

A thigh lift is a surgical procedure designed to end self-consciousness about excess fat, skin, and tissue in the thighs. If you have experienced a loss of skin elasticity in your thighs, hips or buttocks area, or have developed a flabby or heavily dimpled appearance, a thigh lift can restore a firmer and smoother appearance.

If you are at a healthy weight, exercise regularly, and nothing seems to improve the appearance of your thighs, it may be time to discuss this procedure with our team at Cosmoplastic Surgery. We use the most modern surgical techniques, and work to place incisions so they are hidden from view after healing.

The Thigh Lift Procedure

A thigh lift is performed on an outpatient basis. Lifting the inner thighs requires incisions extending from the medial part of the thigh/groin crease around to the buttock crease. Lateral or anterior thigh lifts can be performed as separate procedures for some patients – only a personal consultation will reveal what procedure will create the look you want. The procedure typically involves the following steps:

Step One

You will be administered anesthetic so the procedure is comfortable. You may have intravenous or general anesthetic, as advised by your surgeon.

Step Two

Dr. Alizadeh places the incisions—the location and extent of which will vary based upon the amount of excess fat, tissue, and skin to be addressed.

Step Three

The excess fat, tissue and skin is removed, and the skin tightened to reshape the appearance of your thighs with Colle’s fascial suspension. This is a critical step that sets apart the outcome between different centers based on how it is executed.

Step Four

Dr. Alizadeh closes the incisions in a precise, layered manner with his innovative ratcheting suture technique ensuring there is no tension on the outer layer. The incision is then covered by a mesh glue and transparent dressing.  This produces a scar that, over time, becomes extremely difficult to detect.

Recovery After A Thigh Lift

After the thigh lift is completed, the area will be covered with bandages and tiny tubes may be placed to assist in draining excess fluid or blood from the area. You will spend some time recovering from surgery before being allowed to return home. You will need another person, whether a friend or family member, to transport you.

The healing process will include swelling and bruising, both of which will subside over the following weeks. During this time, activity should be restricted to ensure you have adequate healing time without doing anything to agitate the incision. At Cosmoplastic Surgery in NYC and Long Island, we will provide a full list of aftercare instructions. You will get a call from our team within 24 hours after surgery and have access to our team 24/7.  Between thorough aftercare and follow-up appointments with Dr. Alizadeh, our patients routinely experience an uneventful recovery process that ends with confidence in their thighs.
